Why Google reviews matter more than most business owners realise
When someone searches "clinic near me" or "salon near me" on Google, the businesses that show up at the top of Maps aren't always the oldest or biggest. They're the ones with the most recent, relevant reviews.
Here's what the data says:
- Listings with 50+ reviews get 4x more clicks than listings with 5 reviews
- Each new review in the last 90 days pushes your ranking higher
- A 4.6-star business beats a 4.9-star business if it has 80 reviews vs 8
The math is simple: reviews are free advertising that compounds. Every review you collect today keeps working for you for years.
Step 1: Get your Google review link
You need to give customers a direct link — one tap, and they're on your review page. No searching required.
How to get your link:
1. Go to business.google.com
2. Click on your business
3. In the left menu, click "Get more reviews"
4. Copy the short link Google provides
Shorten it further using bit.ly (e.g., bit.ly/yourshopreviews) — easier to remember and easier to type for walk-in customers.
Save this link. You'll be sending it a lot.
Step 2: Ask at the right moment
Timing is everything. The best moment to ask for a review:
- Right after a positive experience — "You mentioned you're happy with the result — would you mind leaving a Google review?"
- When a customer compliments you — "That means so much, thank you! Would you do us a huge favour…"
- After successful delivery — Send the WhatsApp message 1 hour after the customer receives their order or leaves your shop
- Never ask: While the service is still ongoing, immediately after a complaint, or in a group setting (it's awkward for the customer)
Step 3: The exact WhatsApp message that works
Copy this and send it to happy customers (replace [name] and [link]):
---
*Message 1 (immediately after service):*
"Hi [name]! Thank you for visiting us today 🙏 If you had a good experience, it would really help us if you could leave a quick Google review — takes 30 seconds. Here's the link: [your link]"
---
*If they don't respond in 3 days:*
"Hi [name], just a gentle reminder about the Google review! Even 2–3 sentences helps us a lot 🙏 [link]"
---
Important: Don't ask more than twice. If they don't respond after the second message, move on. Quality of relationship > one review.

Want someone to handle your Google reviews for you?
You can do all of this yourself — the steps above are everything. If you'd rather have review requests sent to customers automatically every month (plus replies, ranking tracking, and Maps management), message me.
Message me on WhatsAppStep 4: For walk-in customers — the QR code trick
For shops, clinics, and salons where customers visit in person:
- Create a QR code from your Google review link (use qr-code-generator.com — free)
- Print it on a small card or A5 laminated sheet
- Place it at your billing counter, reception desk, or on tables
- Train your team to mention it: *"If you liked the service, you can scan this and leave us a Google review!"*
This works especially well for restaurants, clinics, and beauty salons. Customers are already on their phones — make it one tap.
How to respond to reviews (and why it matters for rankings)
Google's algorithm considers review responses as an activity signal. Businesses that respond to reviews rank higher than those that don't.
Reply to every review — good or bad:
*For positive reviews:*
"Thank you [name]! So glad the [service] worked well for you. Looking forward to seeing you again 🙏"
*For negative reviews (don't argue, don't defend):*
"Hi [name], I'm really sorry about your experience. Please WhatsApp me at 9360500323 so I can understand what happened and make it right."
When you handle negative reviews well publicly, future customers see that you care — it often converts better than a perfect 5.0 rating.
